Linear Garage Door Opener Remotes & Transmitters
Linear — now trading as Linear Pro Access, part of Nice — has built garage door and gate radio controls since the 1970s. Because that history spans several incompatible radio formats, picking a replacement remote is not about the opener model. It is about which frequency your receiver runs on and how many dip switches it has. Get those two right and the remote works; get them wrong and no amount of programming will help.
Find your Linear format
Open your existing remote or the receiver on the opener and count the dip switches. Then match the row.

Frequency is not negotiable. A 318 MHz Mega Code remote will never operate a 310 MHz Delta 3 receiver, and a 300 MHz Multi Code remote will not work on either. There is no adapter. If you want to change format, you replace the receiver as well as the remote.

Dip switches or learn code?
Dip switch systems — Delta 3, Alert, Multi Code — have a bank of small two-position switches inside the remote. You set the new remote's switches to match the pattern in your old remote or receiver, and that is the whole procedure. Nothing to press on the opener. Any number of remotes can share the same pattern, which is why these formats persist on shared community gates.
Learn code systems — Mega Code — have no switches. You press a learn button on the receiver and then the remote button, and the receiver memorises that transmitter. More secure, but each remote must be enrolled individually and the receiver holds a limited number.
Common questions
Will a Linear remote work on my gate as well as my garage? Yes. Linear makes no distinction — it is a radio system, and the same transmitter operates either if the receiver matches on frequency and coding.
My new remote doesn't work. In order of likelihood: the dip switch pattern is reversed left-to-right, the frequency doesn't match, or the battery is flat out of the pack.
Can I use a universal remote? Some universals cover the Linear formats, but they have no physical dip switches — they learn the code from a working remote. If you have no working remote left, a universal will not help and you need a dip-switch unit or a complete receiver-and-transmitter set.
How many remotes can one receiver handle? On dip switch systems, any number. On Mega Code, whatever the receiver's memory allows.
My range has got worse. Usually the antenna rather than the remote — check the wire is extended and clear of metal. A weak battery shortens range long before the remote stops working altogether.
